Harriet EaglePainter & Designer
Having studied Fine Art at university in South Africa, and followed a career as a graphic designer in Oxford, it has been a joy to return to the paintbrush and canvas more seriously.
Over the past few years I have attended numerous courses and workshops in and around Oxford and at the School of Painting in St Ives, exploring different techniques and processes while developing my own style. This year I am thrilled to be part of the Porthmeor Program.
My approach to painting is largely intuitive. Initially time is spent on more considered compositional drawings of scenes or things that inspire me. This is followed by preparing the (mainly) oils in harmonious pools of colours. I then layer and scrape back the paint more freely in an attempt to express and capture the delight of my subject whilst my aim underlying the energy is to create a stillness, or ‘silence‘ in the finished piece. I am striving to create works with a sense of harmony and radiance reflecting the world around us.
I am drawn to the landscape, especially the sea, spending as much time as possible in Cornwall where the light and natural beauty provide a wealth of inspiration.
Harriet has an extensive portfolio of original work.
